Product descriptions
I endeavour to describe items accurately although as textiles are tactile objects this can’t replace seeing and handling them. As everything is made by hand small variations are part of the process and the charm of each piece. Please note that colours may look slightly different on different screens and there may occasionally be small differences in size.
Care advice
I use high quality natural fibres and with the right care they will look and feel great for many years to come.
Wool is naturally antibacterial and doesn’t require frequent washing, preferring to be aired and gently spot-cleaned when necessary. When wool or wool and silk items need to be washed please use lukewarm water (no more than 30 degrees Celsius) and a mild non-bio detergent and wash them gently by hand, preferably inside out. Rubbing them or putting them in the washing machine or tumble dryer will result in felting, shrinkage and loss of shape and texture. Silk is best washed by hand in cool water and mild silk-friendly detergent.
After washing, roll your items in a towel, squeeze out excess water, reshape them and dry them flat, away from a direct heat source. Then puff with steam from the iron to remove any creases and plump up the fibres.
Wool does sometimes form bobbles (or pilling) which is caused by friction in areas which are rubbed in wear or use and this is more likely the softer the cloth is. Bobbles can be removed with care using a fabric comb or fabric shaver, holding the fabric taught on a flat surface. If neither of these are available, then a sharp standard razor or even the rough part of a Velcro fastening can be used.
Natural fibres prefer to be stored flat. They should be cleaned before being put away and use lavender bags or cedar wood when storing wool to deter any moths. Using vacuum pack storage bags when you put things away for the summer is an added protection measure.
Sustainability
Working on a small scale means that I am in control of all materials and processes. I only use natural materials, sourced from reputable suppliers and I ask questions about their processes and supply chains, most are GOTS. Most of the yarns I use are spun in the UK supporting mills which form part of our textile heritage, others are mill ends and surplus from large scale production and would otherwise be sent to landfill. I have done a series of experiments and found that the cloth I weave biodegrades in the ground within weeks or months, depending on the time of year, and I am currently researching the impact of commercial dyes and expanding my use of natural dyes.
Postage and packing
Whenever possible orders for items in stock will be despatched within 1-3 business days using a signed-for Royal Mail service, this may be longer during busy periods. Please ensure that you enter your delivery details correctly as I will not be responsible for delays or undelivered items if the delivery address is not complete or accurate. Items are usually delivered within 1-3 business days and a signature will be required on delivery, otherwise Royal Mail will leave a card with information regarding collection.
I currently only ship outside the UK by individual arrangement, all sales are in pounds sterling and the customer is liable for any additional taxes and charges connected to customs clearance. If you are outside the UK please use the contact form and I will get in touch with a quote as quickly as possible.
Your order will be carefully packaged to keep it safe in transit. I use packaging which can be reused or recycled and as stocks are used up I am investing in increasingly planet-friendly materials.
